Grocery shopping in Paradise

Our one and only chore today was grocery shopping. Not too hard, you say? Especially with only ten items on the list. We started out at the Blue Store. These “stores” are not large and the selection is limited and sometimes quite strange. The Blue Store is owned by an elderly couple. I found milk. It is not fresh, but a high temperature treated box milk. This I was expecting. Charlie wanted some sausage. The old man and Charlie rummaged through a chest freezer and finally found 2 packages of sausage. Hallelujah! That was something we didn’t really expect to find. We also bought a six pack of Coke and a six pack of Diet Coke. The elderly lady wanted to give Charlie a calendar - Season’s Greetings - but insisted on putting it in an envelope for him to carry, which took an extra 15 minutes. Three things off our list, but we didn’t find tomatoes, lettuce, green pepper, eggs, bread, or hotdog buns. On to the Pink Pearl Store, actually the next house down the road. There we found tomatoes, lettuce and butter. Butter wasn’t on the list, but decided since it was available, we’d get some. Still no eggs, green pepper, bread, or buns. We made a run back to the boat with our purchases. Put them in the fridge and freezer. You never know how old the produce is, so you want to do what you can to preserve it. Then back in the dinghy and a ride around to Isles General Store. From the name, it seems it would be a much larger store. Not really. They do carry some different stuff. Parts for outboards, filters, postcards, etc., but the food part is about the same. We finally found some eggs. Charlie was really getting worried. I found a green pepper and even picked up some broccoli and bananas that looked quite fresh. Still no bread. We do have two loaves of bread from Peymon on Blackpoint, but may need to go to the “bakery” here in Staniel and get another loaf or two. Will just have to do without hotdog buns. After Sunday, we won’t be where we can shop for week. Sort of gloomy weather this morning. Overcast and rainy. Cleared off late morning and we had partly cloudy skies all day. Still warm. The wind has built some today. Times it was around 20 kts. But, we are protected and the boat just has a slight sway.
