30 KNOTS -A WILD NIGHT!
07 January 2011
Saturday, 8th January, 3:00 am.
As George Clooney says in the great movie O Brother Where Art Thou? - "we're in a tight spot!" - We are in a tight spot right now: the winds have been blowing 30 knots for a few hours now, which throws our plans out the window. I timed our arrival at Wineglass Bay at dawn, because we need the light to enter there in strong winds. But we are going too fast, even with a postage stamp of canvas out, so the decision is to blow right past Wineglass and go south to Schouten Passage. It will be light by then, and we can anchor at Bryans corner, and perhaps sail back up to Wineglass when the south wind comes on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the lighthouse gleams briefly in a dark night, too dark even to see the waves that prowl and rush at us, flying along and looking for the dawn.
