Dielette to Iles de Chausey
01 July 2014
Tuesday we left Dielette at 9:15. We sailed down past the Channel Islands, first Alderney and then Guernsey. We then passed a very small group of islands called Les Ecrehou which only has around 12 houses all on the top of rocks and steps down to a golden sandy beach.
We were having an excellent sail, past Jersey and continued further south. In the distance, some small rocks and low lying islands of the Iles de Chausey became visible. Sailing around the West side of the island and along the wild, moonscape of the rocks that make up a huge area of the island at low tide. However, when the 10m high tide is in, only one main island is left and a about 50 small rocks. Only the main island is inhabited with about 50 houses.
We had two options for the night. On a buoy in in the small channel around the back of the island or at anchor. Given the strong winds that are forecast for the night, we have chosen the buoy. We had dinner in quiet surroundings, knowing that later in the night the wind was rising and at high tide when the rocks will be covered, exposing the harbour to open sea, this place will be interesting!
Anyway, we know that good weather will be here within a day so it's worth waiting.
