Calais to Dover
21 August 2014
Since dogs must enter the UK on a registered ferry route and not on a yacht, we needed to fetch a hire car from the UK. Therefore, on Wednesday Fiona went on the ferry to the UK to pick up a hire car. She crossed to Dover as a foot passenger and returned with a hire car. We popped to the supermarket to get some wine and food to take back home.
On Thursday morning Fiona left on the ferry with Bella and Simon sailed across the channel. Fiona was faced with a strike at the port which delayed her and Simon had to contend with some of the busiest shipping in the world.
There was no wind at the start of the crossing and a force 6 by the other side. As I entered the port and called the marina, Fiona had just arrived in the office and was able to get down to the marina to help me tie up.
Now we are back in the UK, the holiday is drawing to a close. Only one more sail from Dover to Suffolk Yacht Harbour. However, the forecast for tomorrow is not that good and we were considering staying in Dover for another night?
