Peaceful anchorage in Sound of Mull

Nichola / Overcast
It was overcast but dry as we headed out of Oban Marina, the wind pushing us out of our berth which was good of it. The forecast was for F3/4 but as we cleared the north of Kerrera the wind came howling down the Lynn of Lorn up to F7. We decided to try sailed with just the genny, which had worked well for us at times last year but which we hadn't tried since we'd had the genny recut. All worked well and we bowled along at 6kts until we realised the tide was setting us towards Lady Rock so a bit of motoring was needed to get us clear.
The wind died completely as we got under the shelter of Morvern along the north side of the Sound of Mull. The choppy waters became flat and we had to motor the last couple of miles. The anchorage we had chosen was on the north side of the Sound, a little bay with a ruined castle at its end. The water was flat and the scenery stunning with waterfalls tumbling off the crags above. What was best was we had the place to ourselves, although that didn't last too long. It started raining again.
