Santa Ponsa to Porto Colonia de Sant Jordi; 34nm travelled (22nm sailed)
30 June 2014 | Puerto Colonia de Sant Jordi, Spain
Nichola / cloudy, bit of rain then back to blue skies and sun
29th June
We left Santa Ponsa with no wind; an hour or so later as we started crossing Palma Bay it arrived as a F5 gusting F6. A reef in main and genny for a while then it became a bit like the oaky-koaky with the reefs out then in again and the staysail in and out. Kept us busy and warm as it got chilly for a while as clouds passed over. The wind wasn't quite north enough for us to make our course and we ended up about 3nm off our destination. We motored directly into the wind for those last miles as it looked like a few other boats were heading the same way and we'd heard from Pimentao that there wasn't so much space.
We anchored south of isla Gavina, more just a rock than an island in rock and sand. A bit of rain helped clean some of the salt and sand dust from the decks.
Ashore we found Porto Colonia de Sant Jordi to be a more upmarket resort than Santa Ponsa, fairy small without high rises but with plenty of bars and restaurants. We guess it is popular with Germans as there were a few German bars and cafes.
