Of Anchors and men
23 June 2009 | Brighton (t minus 7)
skip (sunny but inside all day again!)
Well here is a photo of the anchor locker which is at the other end of the technological scale from the last post. However equally important low tech gear on the sailboat.
I think it'll be getting a lot of use over the next 3 months! We have two bower anchors, a 66lb CQR and a 66lb Bruce.
The CQR is our main anchor and is on 300ft of 10mm chain. The bruce is our second anchor and is on 15 mtrs of chain and 100 metres of anchorplait.
We also have a danforth kedge on the aft deck with separate chain and warp and also a 45lb emergency CQR buried under the aft bunk on a short length of chain which can be shackled to either of the main anchors.... god forbid we need that!
Dean as to the game which came with the electronics, i think it is called 'why the F@#$ isn't this interface working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'
Everything on the chart table is now commissioned except i cannot get my waypoint management software (GPSU.co.uk) to interface with my furuno GP-31. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I think it is a problem with either the GPS rs-232 driver chip, or my USB to serial lead. I'm going to get a straight serial / serial lead to eliminate that problem, otherwise we'll have to manually import waypoints and send the unit back to furuno this winter.......
I've also lost my Winlink login having not had the SSB up and running for two years but hope that i'll get that sorted at some point this summer.
We have 7 days left of our contract berth in Brighton then we are off!!! First stop anchoring in itchenor reach for a couple of days next week then heading west. Can't believe it is almost upon us! ;-)
