Sleepless in Studland

15 July 2009 | Studland Bay
Nichola / Blowing a hoolie
Bit of a sleepless night last night due to the wind. Gusted up to 38kts from the SW. But the anchor has held, we haven't budged at all and we didn't have to use any of our backup plans - drop the second anchor or leg it to Poole. So at least we know for the future that Studland is good in a big SW blow.

I think I finally drifted off to sleep about 4ish rolling from side to side in the aft cabin, Colin stayed up in the saloon doing regular checks to make sure we weren't dragging. He's a lovely, lovely man for doing that and letting me get a bit of sleep.

Sun is breaking through the clouds now though and the wind is slowly dropping.

Although looking at the forecast for the next few days there are more stong winds to come. Where is the hot, sunny supposed summer that the weather men predicted?!?!?!?!

Studland really is a lovely place. A little sandy beach around the bay, not too crowded. Pub just up the track from the beach that looks very inviting but haven't had the chance to go to yet. Cute, thatched cottage village to wander around. Yesterday we even went for a swim in the sea! We'd really like to spend a bit more time here but it does very much depend on the wind direction.

The photo is of Emerald at anchor with Old Harry Rocks in the background. There are the rocks that are supposed to have once been joined to the Needles on the Isle of Wight.
