MAYA's Voyages

OK, OK,OK,...Maya is back in North Carolina
Shad - warm (too hot) and sunny
11/07/2009, Beaufort, North Carolina

Ok, I have been getting alot of flak about not posting a blog telling everyone we are back in Beaufort, North Carolina. We arrived about a week ago and have been busy sorting out our living arrangements (dockage, cars, stuff like that), and job stuff (medicals, drug tests, and the like). So thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it. As soon as we get settled in we will do some more updates concerning whats going on and an evaluation of the summer (stats, miles traveled, storms, costs, and stuff). So for now we are safe and sound and starting to put our shore-side life together. This is only temporary as we will continue cruising soon.

So glad you updated the blog. Nice to hear you are back in Beaufort, but having to deal with daily living chores has got to be a real shock after a long period of relaxation. Looking forward to further updates...hugs, M
Are we there yet?
Shad - warm, windy
10/24/2009, Norfolk, Virginia, U.S.A.

After 8 days offshore Maya and tired crew arrived at Norfolk, Virginia. A fairly tough passage (with some nice days) we are back in civilization. When we arrived Saturday morning we sailed into the start of a 50 boat yacht race. Conditions were challenging for the racers (25-30 knots) and we managed to stay out of their way. We saw more boats in 1 hour than we have seen in 5 months. Seems kinda crowded here, we had trouble finding a comfortable place to anchor. After dealing with the formalities of coming home we ended up anchoring in a fairly rough spot, but we were too tired to care. A hot shower, a good meal, a good nights sleep, and tomorrow we will feel better.

We had another very nice day sailing today with light to moderate winds and no seas. Making good time on a beam reach about 80 nautical miles out of Norfolk, Virginia. We will stop in Hampton Roads for a couple of days to rest and clean-up the boat and then on to Beaufort. All is well on the good ship Maya. A little hot here though.

Finally a good day.

After the previous two days of storms today was a nice break. We had warm, sunny skies with light (10-12 knots) winds from the north and had a leisurely day reaching along. We were able to clean up the boat and evaluate any damage from the gales. Life looks much better today. Besides the worrying, the sounds, and the overall wetness of a storm, perhaps the most taxing part is just moving around on a boat in constant motion. Every little thing, like going to the head, or putting your close on, is a serious struggle. We were both very tired today. We are better rested now and the boat is in an orderly fashion again We are presently motor-sailing close hauled in a light breeze with very little waves, just under 400 nautical miles from Norfolk, Virginia. Life is good.
