Still in Grenada!!
12 January 2017
We are still in Grenada!! Last Friday, Dirk was feeling so ill that we went to the private local clinic here. He was diagnosed with pneumonia so he has been confined more-or-less to the boat. Today is the first time he has a little bit of energy!! So I'm not sure when we will be taking off.
I have been busy. Hanging out with the women in the anchorage!! Phyllis and I have been swimming most days, which is great- always feel good after our swims. Lesley who lives on the boat behind us, teaches Yoga on Tuesday and Thursday's so I have attended both classes this week!! Hope, another friend of Dirk's, took me to yoga on Tuesday and afterwards we went for "doubles" - a Trinidadian dish of chickpeas in a curry sauce, wrapped in a type of crepe - very messy to eat but they were delicious!! The couple served them out of the back of their van and are only there 3days a week. Unfortunately the women is away for the next few weeks so I will have to wait until I get back to have some more.
On Friday when we went to the clinic - I was introduced to the bus service here in Grenada. All the buses are privately owned and are a 2 man operation - the driver and the person who keeps an eye out for passenger along the road and takes the money. The capacity for the boat is "one more". Dirk has seen up to 22 in one bus!! There are a few designated bus stops but they are just as happy to pick you up anywhere along the road. When I say they run a "set route" that is a very loose way of describing it. After we docked our dinghy, an empty #1 bus was waiting outside budget marine ( not anywhere near the route) so we got in and we started our journey. We were the only passengers and after some negotiation the driver agreed to take us all the way to the clinic!! That saved us a lot of time as 2 different bus routes were required to get there. I was very pleased as it was windy with heavy squalls! After We finished at the clinic we caught the bus down the hill and had a lovely lunch at a local buffet/restaurant. It was delicious local food. We caught the #1 back home. It was packed, I was sitting near the door so every time someone had to get out I had to hop out into the rain and let them out. I'm sure I did it 10 time before we finally got to our destination. Dirk was smart and got in the front seat so he didn't have to get in and out.
Definitely a different style of living down here, and I'm getting used to it.
