Mountain walk

We took the mountain train from Ajaccio which was quite an experience. As the train slowly climbed through the mountains the view was magnificent, but we were also able to see large areas that had been destroyed by the forest fires.

This picture was taken en route to see a L'Abri Southwell - a cave believed to have been inhabited by Neanderthal man, and discovered by an Englishman called Charles Forsythe Major, in 1941. A Mrs. Southwell-Carlucci accompanied him on his explorations to find the cave and was with him when he discovered it - and he named it after her!

The stream water was ice cold and clear.
