What Survives!

The Twisted Trees are lone survivors out here. Do they ever rot, someday maybe. They are fascinating the way they get twisted up from the wind.

The Seclusion

We found some!!! Seclusion that is. So far my experience in the Canyonlands has been different than I expected. The vastness, the beauty, that's all been inline with what I thought but I was expecting to be off more in the wilderness, away from the people. Even though the park is pretty unknown in the [...]

The Confluence

The Historic Point of destination today led us to the Confluence where the Green river from and the Colorado river from Colorado meet in the center of the Canyonlands and join to be the Colorado river which runs through the Grand Canyon in Arizona. This ten mile round trip hike was said to be over flat [...]

The Hoodoos

The majority of the Needles area of the park is covered in rock formations called the Hoodoos, An overview here shows these mushroom looking structures. The needles are condensed in one dense section but the Hoodoos sprawl out to cover the rest of the Needles section of the park.

Tourist Mode

22 September 2017 | Porto, Portugal
Mary
Being a tourist is quite exhausting, on the go, whats around the next corner? This has always been a draw in general on the boat but more so lately. Its hard to remember to do regular life with that lure around, problem is it catches up with you. We have been on the go since I arrived in the Azores to meet up with Doug there. By the time we hit Porto I hit the wall. Zapped of energy and needing to do some homey stuff, sew, bake, just hang out at home. This was not the greatest timing as Porto was an AWESOME city. It came highly recommended by other cruisers and rightly so. Its hard to put into words the charm of some cities while others feel....plain. Set in the hills on both sides of the Duoro river with several bridges to cross from one side to the other it had a quietness yet bustle to it. It is apparently becoming more of a place to visit than ever before yet has no feel of tourism to it. On one side stand all the Port Wine Cellars, 35 in total scattered up and down the hill. Did you know all Port wine in the world is made in this area? The cellars in the city are only there for the aging process. The vineyards and centers where the port is made are up the river in a separate valley though. We took a tour of one of the cellars proving to be very educational, a tasting was included.
