The Hoodoos
The majority of the Needles area of the park is covered in rock formations called the Hoodoos, An overview here shows these mushroom looking structures. The needles are condensed in one dense section but the Hoodoos sprawl out to cover the rest of the Needles section of the park.
The Next Port
After just a few days on Porto Santo we sailed on to the main island of the Madeira islands, Madeira. The sail here was relaxing and I was still moving at the pace dictated on Porto Santo when we pulled in to the marina. Whoa, a complete 180. We were greeted by the marina manager who was super friendly and extremely helpful. Within minutes we were checked in, taken on a walk, shown videos of Zippy on Utube and brought to the tourist office! Wow! The marina is in the main city of Funchal, a major bussling city more reminisant of New York than a small island. It starts at the base of the island but spreads up the mountainside with houses built in every imaginable space, many flush with the edge of a cliff. Needless to say my head is spinning at the moment.
