Categories

Categories allow you to assign a post to be associated with other posts of similar subject through the use of a category tag. For example, you might have a category about events during a particular time, or about equipment, or about a particular topic like politics. Categories can also be used to have posts in multiple languages.

To create a category, click the categories tab in the blog manager. Type the name for the category in the field and submit. The categories you create will be listed in a table below the field.

After creating a category, you can change its name or remove it by clicking the respective link next to the category name.

If you have created categories, when you add a post through the web administration, you'll be presented with a drop down menu allowing you to assign the post to a particular category. You can also edit previous posts an assign them to categories as well.

When a post is assigned to a category, the visitor will see the category name appearing as a link with that post, usually opposite the comments link. If they click on that name, they will be able to limit the blog to only the posts of that category.

Each post can be assigned a single category.

Categories as Links

When you manage your categories, you will also have the option of making the category a link. If you select this option, the category will also appear in your side links list. This is a handy shortcut showing visitors the important categories and allowing them to jump right to that set. Category links appear with a small folder icon to differentiate them from regular external links.

Default Category

You can assign a default category that will be selected automatically when you enter a new post. This can save time and avoid mis-categorization when adding a post. The category can still be changed on the post editor form.

SailBlogs Remote

At the present time, Remote Posting does not allow selecting a specific category for the entry. However, the default category will always be assigned to remote posts.
