We have found great new owners for Njord and we will be passing her on to her new owners on May 1, 2023.

We have had the most amazing seasons sailing her in the UK from June 2012 and then from May 2014 in the Med until April 2023; 11 fabulous years of Njord’s glorious adventures

January 2022 - Marina di Ragusa

The year has started off with very cool evenings and cold overnight, the days very windy but with some beautiful sunny days. This weather is somewhat different to the previous winters we have spent here, but then the weather in the UK and rest of Europe has been unusual too.

This photograph was taken mid January on our pontoon by Njord. I managed to do my yoga practice this particular day here as there was no wind at all, beautiful.

Vessel Name: Njord of London
Vessel Make/Model: Malo 39 Classic
Crew: Vic Farhi & Clare Harrison
About: Learnt to sail together and the first sailing experience was in Lanzarote in 2005. We then bought Mandarin, a Bavaria 39 and in June 2012 bought Njord, a Malo 39 from the Baltic.
Extra: As attributed to Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

A simple lunch on board in Oeiras Marina: soup, salad and a glass of red wine. The (chilled) red wine is for medicinal purposes only!

Approaching the famous bridge crossing the Rio Tejo. This is the Ponte 25 de Abril. It is 70m high so we had no worries about crossing underneath it. It was built in the 1960s.

Santuario Cristo Rio. This masterpiece was the work of the Portuguese sculptor Frncisco Franco de Sousa and overlooks the city and Ponte 25 de Abril bridge.

The Praca de Comercio in the foreground with yellow buildings was a great landmark to see on our trip. The square and area around is being renovated and Peter and John had not seen it since they had planted the trees in the area and started the work as it has been closed off. This building was once the palace of the kings of Portugal and has seen in its time various historical events.

Rio Tejo
Going towards the mouth of the Rio Tejo, this lovely old vessel passed us with full sails hoisted.

Just behind the stern of the sailing vessel you can see the Discoveries Monument. This commemorates the Portuguese discoveries and its heroes. On the sides of the monument there are sculptures of the great heros and the Infante D. Henrique holding a ship in his hand
This cruise liner passed us in the River Tejo on its way to her next stop Vigo. . It passed very close and towered above us. It was on our port side.
And look what was on our starboard side at the same time. This Royal Caribbean cruise liner on its way to Gibralter. It passed us on our starboard side as we were sailing at 6.75 knots up the river on a beam reach.
John, my nephew at the helm outside Cascais. This was his first helming experience and he did very well.
Peter, my nephew has now taken the helm. He helmed out in the bay between Cascais and the entrance to the River Tejo and Lisbon. The winds started to get up as he helmed and we reached 7 knots whilst he was "in charge".
