Beckwith and setting sun
08 August 2011 | West side of Beckwith Island
Bruce / clear and then Rain
Sunday evening was spent at the west side of beckwith island with wind and wuthering. A little bit of a swell was cured with an aft stern line. Ninety degrees to starboard. Pulled us over just enough to be into the swell. The next day we had woke to see starlight express. Another night of watching the sun going down on georgian bay. That lasted till late into the evening.
By now, wind and wuthering were well on their way north and starlight express was following up to twelve mile bay. Looking at the weather we could see that a front was making its way east. Time to run. We Headed east to Beausoleil island. Familiar and closer to home. I forgot that the reason we didn't actually anchor here much is that the weeds make it hard to hold. The winds were expected to be ten to fifteen, Ok for the first night. Wednesday morning the winds picked up. The forcast was for twenty to twenty five knots of wind. We had a large danforth down and fifty feet of three eights chain. Danforths are not good in mud and or weeds. When we returned from shopping, we were caught in a torential down pour of wind and rain. I didn't like the idea of being out in the open, So we moved closer in. Not close enough.
The anchors started to let go. Dragging us across the bay. Thank goodness it was in the middle of the day. In a panic we hauled up the weed covered anchor and chain. Ten feet of covered chain weighs a ton. Stressed, realization that no tranny has some issues and that a proper twenty five kilo Bruce anchor and one hundred and fifty feet of chain were needed. We agreed that that vacant dock spot on cedar springs was the way to go, thirty four dollars later, i am going to sleep tonight.
