Future Plans....

Mary is back, yay! We were all really happy to have her home and it sounds like she had a great time. Now that she is home, plans are firming up for the next phase and we are heading south until the water is warm enough for Mary to swim. The quick itinerary is to check into Mexico in the Ensenada area and then make our way down the coast of the Baja Peninsula. The first stop will be Isla Guadalupe, a marine park about 150 miles off the coast with seal and sea lion rookeries and one of the largest concentrations of sharks in the world. Spooky, huh? I keep echoing in the static-y Disneyland speaker voice to the kids: "Keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times." It's good for a nervous grin and chuckle. From there, we will hit a couple of spots down the coast that have been recommended: some good fishing spots, Turtle Bay for fuel, and a sheltered lagoon where the grey whales come in large numbers to calve. We had originally planned to sail up into the Sea of Cortez and visit the area around La Paz which is renowned for the snorkeling, whales, fishing, sea life etc., but this was nixed when we realized that the average temperature in December is 60 degrees and you need a wet suit to spend much time in the water. Mary, with her steel trap mind, somehow remembered a past promise I had made about warm weather and warm water. So we are going to skip this area and head straight over to the mainland of Mexico where it's warmer. We will probably make a long hop around the end of Baja, and land in Mazatlan, and then head south to Banderas Bay and Puerto Vallarta. For anyone with open Christmas plans, we are wondering who might like to come and visit?
Margaritas for Christmas toasts, anyone?
