Shark!

06 April 2009 | Pacific
Tim
So far we have not caught any fish, until today. Tim was looking over the stern, and "trwang"! the bungy cord stretched 6 feet, and Tim reported that he saw a big splash. And then, Tim said "FISH" and then "SHARK". Dad grabbed the gloves from the lazarette and attempted to pull the line in and then attempted to get the line to a winch. Eventually, Dad got the line to the winch and started pulling the thing in. After 5 minutes of struggle, we could see the darn thing and it was a 5' long shark. Mom said that it was bigger than her. It was tan, but we could not identify it from the Fish or Dangerous Marine Animals books. Mom filmed it and we took pictures so that when we get to Hiva Oa we can post it on the blog. When we got it up to the boat Dad cut the monster loose using Marcus' dive knife. This was the excitement for the day!
