The Moon Was A Ghostly Galleon...

18 April 2011 | Egg Island
linda and the captain
The moon was a ghostly galleon, tossed upon stormy seas…(Edgar Allen Poe) What a beautiful sail we had from Staniel Cay to Egg Island! Over 75 miles in one day is pushing—we started at 7 am and pulled into our anchorage by moonlight at 9 pm. The moon was full with a huge spring tide throughout the day. Along the way, we saw flying fish and dolphin, but got no bites on the two lines we had out. No fish for dinner tonight. We anchored in solitude against the shadow of the island, but prior to dawn when we began to prepare to depart, we noticed that we had been joined by a trawler. We conversed with our neighbor by VHF early this morning—they were preparing to leave as well to go fishing on the Bank. We both left our anchorage, going separate ways. We have about 50 miles to go to the Abacos. What a wonderful adventure!

Vessel Make/Model: Lagoon 380
Hailing Port: Portsmouth, NH
Crew: Gary and Linda Pauly, Patty and Tom Waier
About: Too many two week charters. We wanted to spend more than a night or two in really great Caribbean anchorages. Whiskey for the guys and wine for the girls oiled the decision to buy a boat and do it before our bones got too old to pass muster.
