Mudd River
Since we are in Georgia we have to "work/play the tides". There are 8 foot +/- tidal differences (amount tide increases and decreases) which also equals strong currents. The times of high and low tides change everyday and because our boat drawls 5'9" (we use 6 ft) we have to plan our days around the tides otherwise we could go aground. Today, high tide was 2:38p so, we got to sleep-in a little. Greg cooked blueberry pancakes with sausage for breakfast - a nice change from oatmeal and cereal. Motor vessel (mv) Enjoy weighed anchor and departed a little before us. It is much faster and draws less than sv Abigail Grace and Surrender - we will keep-in-touch. Today we navigated the Little Mudd River which has some notoriously low areas without difficulty - we did wait for the tides to have enough water under our keels. The winds were gusting to 20mph making it a little salty but we kept on moving. We were hoping to anchor near Jekyll Island but due to the opposing tides and winds we decided to anchor off Lanier Island (near St. Simon Island). As we were approximately three (3) miles out from our anchorage we noticed a lot of smoke from sv Surrender. Greg quickly hailed Ken on the VHF. Ken and Greg did some quick trouble shooting over the VHF but where unable to find a cause - sv Surrender limped into the anchorage. Once both vessels where anchored, Greg and I deployed our dink and Greg motor over to assist Ken.
