Moving north
15 June 2014 | Myrtle Beach
Hot and humid
Hi Y'all,
We're in the south and I'm giving you a taste since I can't give you a sweet tea.
We sailed the boat north from New Smyrna to Brunswick, GA and left her there while we drove north to check on our cabin in Michigan. We visited and uncle and aunt in Ky and a son and his family, 4 boys in IL.
The cabin was fine after a long, snowy winter and the daffodils were up and we had 2 robins nesting nearby. The orioles showed up after I put out oranges and grape jelly and the hummers even came.
After we returned to Brunswick we braved the ocean to come north to Beaufort, SC to pick up our grandson, Kevin who is 8. He loves the dinghy and the boat and we had a wonderful week. Every afternoon we put down the dinghy and he and Grampa would take a dinghy ride. Kevin is practicing all the intricacies of the dinghy like gear shifting and steering and will eventually be strong enough to pull the starter line. It will be very quiet now that he has gone home.
We made it to Myrtle Beach with a low tide all week and only 2 minor groundings. One at the Ashpoo cutoff which is notoriously shallow where we were pushed aside by an aggressive sailboat and once in the middle of the channel approaching the Wapoo Bridge. We made the bridge opening and anchored at Long Pt. Creek north of Charleston in many acres of salt marsh.
We are anxious to get to Maine so we will be pressing on our way north with a stop in Annapolis to see friends.
Will try to blog more so you can see the northern parts where we go.
Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there. You are so essential.
