Sailing Dreams
04 May 2005
I have been sailing on a regular basis since 1984 when I took up windsurfing in Foster City, CA. Since then I have owned 4 boats (sunfish, small kayack, 16' sailing dory and the Addiction). When we bought the Addiction in 2001, I started visiting a website called Cruise News (http://cruisenews.net). This site has an amazing amount of links to folks that are out on the sea and living the dream. With the advent of the web, it is very easy to blog about your trip and all the trials and tribulations of cruising. So I started dreaming of my own cruise to tropical ports. After reading many of the websites, I have come up with a dream of my own. My son Connor will be off to college in 2014. At that time, I hope to have a well founded boat and set sail with a few friends joining me for different legs of the journey. My hope is to set off in September and sail the California coast south. If the HaHa is still going, join them for the trip to Cabo San Lucas. Spend the winter in Mexico and then head south towards Central America and Costa Rica. In the spring head east to the Gallapagos and then on to the South Pacific. Summer there and visit the island groups. October would find us sailing towards New Zealand. I have read many stories of circumnavigations and most of these folks agree that this portion of the world offers the best of cruising. From New Zealand it would be in our best interest to spend sometime in Austrailia as well. My hope is my wife Bridget
(does not like to sail) would join me at different tropical stops and enjoy these beautiful places. This trip would take about 2 years. From Austrailia who knows, maybe if I still like cruising the way I hope I will, I will sail her back to SF! Here's to my dream!!
