Well, we did it! We are finally back where this whole adventure started on Aug 27, 2015 at our home port at St. Joseph, MI. We have put 1,184 hours on Serendipity and traveled about 5,000 miles in three years (with frequent months at home) and we are still speaking to each other. [...]

Lake Huron - we're here!

Enter Lake Huron and the harbors are fairly vacant. Where is everybody? That's okay - the quiet harbors give you time to truly enjoy this beautiful country and the wildlife that I truly hope we can preserve for generations that follow. We have done a small part by delivering a few small land birds, [...]

Another beautiful spot

05 November 2015 | Osprey Marina, Myrtle Beach, SC
We left North Myrtle Beach at 7:37 AM and headed to Osprey Marina at South Myrtle Beach. The Grand Strand covers a lot of area and from our view it is beautiful. While we travel we continually hear conversation among boaters. Channel 16 on the radio is reserved for hailing other boaters and distress calls - boaters are required to monitor this channel but then should contact other boaters and request boaters to switch to a different channel for conversation. Along our trip we have heard the Coast Guard reiterate the rule that Channel 16 is not for conversation and should be kept open "this is not a toy!' As we are traveling through South Carolina, we hear significant chatter on the radio so Bob radios to boaters that channel 16 needs to be kept open and they should use other channels. When Bob hangs up the radio I notice we are monitoring channel 68 not 16 - oops! I'm glad they don't know who we were. Needless to say this was brought up a few times during the day - we both thought it was funny. The ICW is narrow and as we are waiting for a swing bridge to open, we are surrounded by the Coast Guard, Sheriff and local Police - what is happening? Bob yells out to the Coast Guard and they respond they are looking for a body. As we proceed forward, we find ourselves also watching. We arrive at Osprey Marina in South Myrtle Beach at 12:23 PM. This marina is in a beautiful, well protected cove and the staff meets us with a goody bag. As the sun is going down, we sat in rocking chairs on the marina porch sharing stories with other boaters. If you are traveling by boat - this should definitely be a spot to stop and enjoy. We plan to head to Georgetown, SC tomorrow - the Taste of Georgetown is going on this weekend. We were hoping to find a place to meet Trent & Stephanie but Bob is anxious to get home to schedule his surgery so we have picked up the pace and if all goes as planned we should be in Beaufort next Wednesday. They couldn't get away until the following week. We miss you guys and we expect to plan a trip to Beaufort together after Bob has recuperated
