Traveling the C & D Canal & Delaware Bay
10 May 2018
May 8 - We think we left Knapp's Narrows Marina at about 6:15 AM (Vickie is still in bed and Bob forgets to check time). Bob takes a beautiful picture of the sunrise at 6:44 AM. BTW - red markers are not correct - we hit bottom at least twice and thanks to a local fisherman in a boat nearby tells Bob to not follow that line. We pass Allan's old town of Annapolis and at 1:00 PM, we pull into Green Point Landing but no one is around - no dockhand or anyone but finally he shows up at 1:21 PM - and they have no fuel or pump out so we move to Worton Creek Marina, Chestertown, MD - just a short distance to fuel up and pump out. The scenery is beautiful - it looks like a secluded lake back home. When we finally get a slip - we are once again next to "Neon Rainbow". Rumor is- the original owner was Alan Jackson and we spent time next to her at Hidden Harbor, Brunswick, Georgia. I take a picture of a boat named "Virginia Lee" for Steve & Nancy Sagle. Bob makes a fabulous dinner - Wahoo given to him by a fisherman at HHI - what a beautiful day on the Chesapeake. Funny for the day: I posted 2 beautiful pictures - one of a sunrise (taken by Bob) & one of a sunset (taken by Vickie) on the Chesapeake: Just saying - An early bird and a night owl on a boat don't miss much!
May 9 - From Worton Creek Marina, MD to Chesapeake City, MD - free city dock on the C and D Canal - truly beautiful town and it is all right here at the boat - lucky to find a spot to tie up because space is limited. What an awesome lunch at Chesapeake Inn Restaurant & Marina and Brian our server was wonderful! Hey Sheri - we got you some cups (I had 2 for the team, Bob only had 1)... This place looks different in May than when we came through on our way south in Oct, 2015 but this is a great stopping place on the Chesapeake. Watching & assisting boaters is fun - we have met sooo many fellow boaters just by catching a line and helping to secure their boat - and vice versa.
May 10 - Leave beautiful Chesapeake City at 5:30 AM, travel the C & D canal then enter the Delaware Bay - not very nice. We plan to stop at a Marina tonight (nothing fancy) and we are almost there but at 11:20 AM we are stuck - really hard. Markers are not charted and we miss them by just a bit but that's all it takes especially at low tide. Nothing to do but have lunch and wait a few hours for higher tide so we can move forward and finally at 2:22 PM we are tied to a dock at Money Island Marina, NJ - in spite of strong winds creating issues and receiving very little assistance at the dock. One night is enough here - desolate, close to fuel tank on rickety dock but it's okay - leftovers on the boat and a little TV and then to bed. Heading to Cape May tomorrow and I am excited!
