Enter the NY Erie at Waterford, NY. This may take a few blogs but you just can't rush such beauty.

A few Days' Highlights:

7/18/18 Leave Waterford, NY at 9:45 AM, venture through the famous "Waterford Flight" - a series of 5 locks (Lock 2 thru 6) that raise the boat 169 ft in 1.5 miles. We will enter the NY Erie Canal with gloves, boat hooks and a sense of adventure. Last lock for the day (Lock 7) and at 1:35 PM we are at Schnectady Yacht Club at Rexford, NY. The scenery today is beautiful and so diverse. Time to fuel up, pump out, do laundry and enjoy dinner on the boat. Thanks Rick for everything.

7/19/18 We get to sleep in a bit but it is time to move further west so we shove off from Schnectady Yacht Club at 9:03 AM - only 3 locks today (8,9,10) and at 12:48 PM, we arrive at Amsterdam, NY - very pretty

7/20/18 Serendipity heads away from Amsterdam, NY at 8:41 AM, more locks (11 thru 17) - a little side note - Lock 17 is the largest single step lock and is believed to be only 1 of 2 locks in North America where the entrance gate is lifted above the boat so you tend to get a little wet on entering the lock (it actually feels good - hot day on the Erie Canal). At 3:56 PM, we arrive at Little Falls Canal Harbor, Little Falls, NY. The Erie Canal from Troy to Buffalo traverses 35 locks (34 on the Erie and the Federal Lock at Troy) as it rises, then falls and finally rises from sea level at Troy to 565 ft above sea level at Niagara River.

7/21/18 We take a stroll to Little Falls and then back to the boat to shove off at 10:42 AM - WOW scenery!! Mountains, trees - only 1 lock (Lock 18) and at 12:09 PM we are at Ilion Marina & RV park at Ilion, NY. Tied to the wall right next to a little restaurant with hamburgers, hot dogs, milkshakes (just like the old ice cream stands). Staying put until the rain passes over.

7/22/18 Visit the Ilion Village which happens to be where the Remington Firearms Co is located (oldest firearms maker in the USA - Bob is excited) then do laundry and watch several episodes of "The Middle" on the boat - our favorite series!!!
