Flight of Aghavni

a Topjian family traveling journey

Port Jefferson

In Long Island tonight at Port Jefferson. Left Block Island, RI at 7:30am, went through Connecticut and currently in New York State, arrived here around 7pm.

Timed the pass near Mystic/New London at what is called "The Race" because of 4 knot tide rips. We hit perfect at slack for flood to push us down the Long Island Sound all day. Added about a knot and a half of speed overall.

Some folks think cruising is all hanging out and relaxing but in the words of Rocky Balboa, "The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows, kid."

Kids spent a few hours today doing boat school studying math flash cards and learning up to 7x12 times tables.

Mamabear spent a few hours preparing an amazing meatloaf meal complete with salad and potatoes!

I spent 4 hours in the engine room upon arrival today doing routine maintenance. But after 12 hours of traveling, that's not exactly how one thinks of the relaxing cruising lifestyle!

Anyway, it's part of the journey! List of what I did:

Perkins M90 Diesel: 640 hours (100 hours since last service I did in Charleston, SC):
Change Oil
Change oil filter
Change fuel filter and clean racor
Clean engine water intake filter
Change impeller

Northern Lights Generator: 1650 hours (less than 75 hours since I bought the boat):
Check oil levels
Change fuel filter and clean racor
Clean water intake filter

Fired everything up and all seems to be good. It is a little nerve wracking because if something goes wrong or a part gets broken/lost, your literally up a creek without a paddle!

Thank God all good and we'll continue the journey in the morning!
