Night watch
10 June 2017
In the middle of the trip, 300 miles from land on either side of us, at 2:45am, with 17,000+ feet of water beneath us (over 3 miles deep) --- we find ourselves on a direct collision course with a large ocean tanker Sti Aqua.
Our new technology proves greatly helpful as we were able to identify the vessel long before we were close, and the captain and I got in contact directly on VHF to confirm our positioning relative to theirs. He gave me the go ahead to cross his bow and wished us a "Bon Voyage".
Yes, in a way it's scary. But also strangely comforting to know that if we were in distress, there are people out on this ocean who can come to assist in a severe emergency.
The moral of the story? I'll let you decide but here's my take:
1. God is good.
2. Always be prepared.
