Waiting for the bus in Linton Bay.
One of the unique things about cruising is the many "Nets" that exist throughout different parts of the world. These are all methods of communication that boaters use throughout the world. It is mostly via VHF or SSB (single sideband radio).
We listen in to weather nets, general info nets, cruising club nets, crime updates, etc. They are extremely helpful and provide a safety net to exchange important information to boaters across the globe.
This morning, we received a terrible report of a cruising sailboat that was robbed at gunpoint in the port of Portobello. We were planning to anchor there today but obviously changed our itinerary upon receiving the news. There hadn't been an incident such as that in over 3 years but unfortunately, crime exists in this fallen world.
However, we really wanted to visit Portobello as it is a great port discovered by Columbus that was a center for shipping gold/silver back to Spain.
So, we have decided to stay at a secure marina about 30km away and take a bus into the historic town for the day.
