Vagabonds*
Reading a local Kiwi legend book, South Sea Vagabonds, by J.W.Wray which casually details a young man and his journey to sail a boat he built in his parents front yard. It's classic Kiwi in the way that everything is so spur of the moment and casual, with very minimal fuss. A few on my favorite quotes:
"Man's never-ending struggle with Nature finds expression in devious ways, but in none, perhaps, more vividly than his attempted mastery of the sea."
"Somehow [at sea] you seemed to be nearer the heart of things--the things that really matter--nearer the stars, nearer Nature, nearer the Creator, than you can ever be in the heart of a crowded city."
"The song of the helmsman was something in the nature of a song of joy and contentment."
"The softly lapping waves, the slow heave of the restless ocean, the myriads of stars overhead, all combined to produce an atmosphere of indestructible peace."
