New dairy farm going up at Springfield Farm!
I was fortunate to be a part of some of the early stages of construction, helping to prepare footers and layout utilities. The old style of dairy shed was a Herringbone shed, which is what we saw on the Dargaville farm last Christmas. This one is a newer Rotary shed which allows a single milker to milk around 800 cows! Yes, you read that right. There are 2 milkings a day of about 400-450 head each time. 54 cows enter the rotary and slowly spin while cups are put on and off. Much of the process is automated and highly monitored. It all starts at 4am!
Boy, I'm sure glad the cows are having a winter rest!
