Islands Trip

07 April 2015 | Islands North of La Paz, BCS
Dennis
We had a week to wait for our 15 HP Honda outboard motor to be repaired (we also have a small 4 HP motor we use). Instead of waiting in La Paz for the week, we went North and visited the islands of Espiritu Santo, Partida, San Francisco, and San Jose. Had a great time anchoring at six different locations. More photos in the Gallery.

Friends Visit

30 March 2015 | Isla Espiritu Santo
Dennis
Sherie and I have had guests on board the last few days; Brent Reid and his son Austin flew down and joined us on Ahmeek in La Paz. We spent a couple of nights in La Paz before heading North to Isla Espiritu Santo. On the way out of La Paz we took a look at Venus, a super yacht that had been built for Steve Jobs, but finished after Jobs died and passed to his heirs. Boat cost over 100 million Euros to build.

Once up on Isla Espiritu Santo we anchored in Bahia San Gabriel for a couple of nights. San Gabriel is a big bay filled with aqua blue-green waters, and backed by a couple of lagoons filled with mangroves. There are ruins of an old oyster farming operation on the South shore.

From the shore of San Gabriel we hiked across the island to the East side to Playa la Bonanza, a beautiful long beach with white sand.

We were hot after the hike and all went for a swim in the clear waters.

After hiking back to San Gabriel and taking the dinghy back to Ahmeek, we had a late lunch and hung out in the shade, swam, and paddled around the bay.

The next day we heading South to Balandra for an afternoon swim, and then sailed a few miles further South to Playa Pichilingue where we set anchor for the evening. On the shore is a very nice open palapa restaurant where we all had a seafood dinner together.

We returned to La Paz on Sunday. Brent and Austin rented a car to drive down to Cabo for a few more days adventure by themselves before they return home to California. It was great having the company for a few days. Adios amigos!

Mexico Living

18 March 2015 | La Paz, Baja Sur
Dennis
We have been enjoying being in La Paz. Last night Reno and Cathy of Star came over to our boat for sundowners and conversation. Today we searched around the shops in town for some paints for a craft project of Sheire's. Found what we needed in a great little store in old part of town. Now having lunch and using internet on the Malecon (boardwalk). Weather is perfect today (yeterday I got caught in a short thunderstorm when on a bike ride up the coast).

Back to Civilization

13 March 2015 | La Paz, Baja Sur

After a great time in the Loreto area we have spent the last few weeks out of touch with cell phones and internet along the Sea of Cortez coast of Baja. Except for a couple of small fishing villages, no people along the way except for other cruisers. After leaving Loreto we stopped in Agua Verde for a few days, a nice anchorage with a small village nearby. A long hike took us to an old indian cave with some rock art

We headed South to Isla San Jose checking out a few anchorages for a few days. One day beach combing we ran across a whale skeleton.

Stopping at Isla San Francisco and Isla Partida we are finally now at anchor in the bay off of La Paz. Stopped by an outdoor restaurant for burgers and beer and to catch up on emails and internet stuff. Been having a great time.

Peace (paz) to everyone.

Town Day

27 February 2015 | Loreto
Dennis
Loreto is home to the first Spanish Mission in the Californias. Very nice quite town. We are now in Puerto Escondido and have seen the several boats of friends in the bay. Should be a good few days here.

Windy Anniversary

25 February 2015 | Puerto Balandra
Dennis
We have been anchored in a beautiful cove on West coast of Isla Carmen for the last couple of nights called Puerto Balandra. Crew of five different boats were all on Inncredable Sea Lodge (a big 45 foot catamaran) for fish tacos and beers last night. The wind came up strong yesterday afternoon and blew all night. We are anchored will in the cove and got some sleep last night, but have had better.

Today is the fourth year anniversary of our wedding. Sherie and I were married on snow shoes in Utah, and now are hanging out in shorts in Baja on our sailboat. I love my wife and our life together. I am a very luck man.
