25 June 2018 | Rockport, MA to Kittery, ME to Andover, MA
The tide change in Kittery isn't until 1:40 pm, so we took our time to get going. The dock at the Sub Base where we tie up is perpendicular to the way a very strong current runs, and with all the moorings a long side, there is little room to maneuver, so it's best to arrive at slack tide. Although rain was forecasted for noon and later, we decided it was easier to fight rain than tidal current. We decided to just use the Genoa to sail and run the engine on the way to charge batteries. We had a 9 knot wind from the southeast, so we barely used the engine.
Our son Travis dropped a car off for us outside the sun base, so we could use it to get to his home and spend a few days with them when we arrived. We were able to catch a glimpse of 2whales just off Newburyport. They just appear briefly and are back under until we are far away. While it felt good to be back in waters we had sailed in so much from 2004 - 2008, the cold rain and numerous lobster pots reminded us of things that weren't quite so fun. A little bob, and a lotta weave, and we made into our slip at Seavy Island very easily but pretty wet. The downpour stopped about 10 minutes after we tied up, so we dried off a little on our walk off base to get Travis's car.
We spent Sunday though Tuesday with Travis and his family , and were joined by our daughter Tiffany and her family, grandmommy is always happy to spend time with her grandchildren, although all 5 at once where her out! Katie an Travis were great hosts to have us all, we really enjoyed our visit.
