30 June 2018 | Kittery to Cape Porpoise
Finally back on the water, we timed our departure with tide change to make it easy getting off the dock and through the tight mooring/lobster pot field. While the wind was calm, the sea still had plenty of 3/4 foot rollers, which made for a wallowy ride up the coast to Lesley's favorite place, Cape Porpoise. Just off York we entered fog, while visibility was just a couple hundred yards at sea level, you could still see Cape Neddick light house, which to me is one of the prettiest, above the fog. It was good to exercise our new radar and pick out the lobster boats as they darted back and forth to retrieve their catch of the day.
Cape Porpoise was very familiar as we entered the channel to go in.... full of pots and lobster boats, with little room to anchor. The squeeze was worth it as we found good holding n our usual place, and once again next to our Oriental friends, Eric and Debra! We enjoyed a walk into town, then the 7 mile round trip walk into Kennebunkport was a little longer than we recalled, but good exercise. Kennebunkport was starting to fill up with vacationers for the holiday weekend, all the shops were in full swing. We pushed off the temptation to go into one of our favorite lobster (and huckleberry pie) places for dinner, opting for dinner where the view was much better, on the boat in the harbor. We made it back just before a brief shower and were rewarded with a nice rainbow and calm evening.
