13 July 2018 | Bath - Maine Maritime Museum
We stayed on the mooring at the Maritime Museum today. Only disappointments here were they advertised showers, there's really only one and the "Yachtmen's Center" it's in is also home base for the kids day camp; when we asked about the laundry they said they had in their brochure, they said: "well, we haven't really gotten to that yet" - minor things for an all around great place. They made it possible to easily imagine all the ships that were built and launched right where we stood. The large ship Bow and Stearn structures mounted on the property gave true dimension to the 6 masted "Wyoming" that was built there, and the rebuilt shops showed how the work was done. It's really worth seeing and hard to imagine how tough the work must have been in an era with very little power and no automation to help.
The trolley to town made the trip in easier, we didn't time returns well (no trolleys mid day or after 4:30) so we got more excercise in with full back packs each trip.... good thing they have a shower! Rain washed the boat off that night, so we were ready for a clean start in the morning.
