01 August 2018 | Dyer Island to Trafton Island via Eastern Harbor
We can't believe July is at its end already. We spent a bit of the day trying to pair down the list of places we want to go because we're going to run out of time. We've done much of the southern coast, Casco Bay and some mid coast areas, but there are many places we skipped on the way up. Last night the anchorage was pretty, but the slight current and breeze put us broadside to the cove opening, so we had a very rolly night.
We saw a couple places noted in the guide nearby so we decided to go have a look, and decide if we want to spend the night. With great visibility and mostly sun, it's much easier to just explore. Lesley had the helm all day today, she did great. Her biggest challenge was dodging pots, they were a little harder to see in the slight chop with the jib partially blocking the view. We went into Eastern Harbor in Cape Split, it was OK, but filled with lobster boats, we imagined how noisy it would be at four am the next morning when they all got an early start and decided we'd go check out some other spots. We went behind a few islands in Pleasant Bay, they looked like great spots for a daytime anchorage, but suspected they may not be protected enough for a comfortable night. We ended up going by Trafton Island again, since all the boats were gone, we decided to anchor there.
Two boats joined us at Trafton around five pm, there was plenty of room, so no one felt the least bit crowded. We cooked some steaks on the grill and enjoyed a great sunset.
