29 August 2018 | Edgartown, Martha’s Vinyard
We spent today exploring Edgartown and the harbor. The guide said there were almost 700 moorings in the mile long harbor, most of them had boats on them. Sizes ranged from a few Haven 12 1/2s to outboard fishing boats to yachts over 100 feet. The houses around the harbor were numerous, many were spectacular. The village was busy, but not crowded. There were many shops for clothes and jewelry, missing were souvenir shops and fast food (other than ice cream). We liked the town here vs. Nantucket and Vinyard Haven, that we visited on our way north in June.
We checked out the grocery store and fish market, and at the thought of carrying things back to the boat, concluded we had enough provisions to last a while. We did force ourselves to try out Bad Martha’s Brewery for lunch. The beer and the meat/cheese combination plate were worth a return trip.
Back at the boat the water was perfect for a swim. One zinc that had been on since Nov 2017 was gone, so it was replaced. On inspection, the zinc I put on a month ago was loose again. It got tightened again to the point I thought the screw would break, I’ll check it again when we get to Block Island. Lesley took time to clean the water line all around the boat.
Many boats came out for a sunset sail, it was great to watch them as the sky went from blue to pink and the sun turned burnt orange as it dropped below the horizon.
