River Antoine Rum Distillery

Carol/sunny and gorgeous
(Waterwheel that runs the conveyor belt carrying the sugar cane to be crushed and also runs the rollers that crush the sugar cane into juice)
After lunch in Grenville, we drove north to the River Antoine Run Distillery which was founded in 1785. The tour was so interesting. We saw all the processes from cutting the sugar cane, squeezing the juice using the river driven waterwheel, to heating the juice, fermenting and distilling and finally the finished product. We asked our guide how much of their rum was exported. He said they don't make enough rum to export as it is all consumed on Grenada! At the end of the tour, we were offered a free sample. Although it was just a sip, it was so strong that we chased it with the cold water that was also offered.
