The Carlton Cocoa Bean Processing Plant

07 October 2012 | Grenada
Carol/sunny and gorgeous
(Interior of storage warehouse at the plant)

We had a very knowledgeable guide to take us on a tour of the Carlton Cocoa Bean Processing Plant which was located on the road to Grenville. They weren't processing any cocoa beans at the time of our tour, but we were shown around the drying racks outside, the sweat boxes which helped in the partial fermentation, and the machinery used to process the beans. We saw hundreds of large bags, which weighed 123 pounds apiece and were were worth $1,840 each! That's a lot of cocoa!!!
