Spring has Sprung

Cindy
So it is the Easter weekend, a four day weekend for us and what do we do? We head off to the boat to prepare her for launch in 2 weeks. Earlier this week Wayne took the tarps off (yes, those ugly gray ones with the red tape) and let her breathe - I swear I could hear Leeway screaming YES, YES, YES (oh wait a minute, that is from When Harry Met Sally) - but I still think that she must be thinking the same thing - to get out from under those drab gray tarps that have held her down all winter - it must have felt like a - well, you know.....

A couple of weeks ago, Wayne sanded the bottom in preparation for some new epoxy and antifouling paint. The paint we had put on 3 years ago failed, so we had to remove it and start again. One coat of epoxy and three coats of anti-fouling later and we're hopefully ready for everything the salt water can bring. We re-painted the water line and oiled the teak toe rail in preparation for launch. We're going to "touch down" on April 19th - the earliest we have ever been in the water. Leeway has become our home and we can't wait to have her floating again. As strange as it seems for some, we both feel like the proverbial fish out of water in the winter when she is "on the hard".

It is great to see the signs of spring and nice weather - the sanders humming away in the boat yard as we tape, paint and oil. We keep reminding ourselves that we won't have to do this next year.
