You know that old saying that you used to find on the washroom stall - here I sit, broken hearted... Well, I won't go in to the rest of it, but it kind of seems that way for us. We were all ready to head out on our great adventure on Monday, but the weather held us back. Hopeful that we would get off the dock Tuesday, we were disappointed again at the weather forecast. Strong winds and lumpy waves are not what we want when our mast is down and lashed onto the deck. Again today, we woke to strong winds and 1-2 metre waves on the lake. The picture below shows how the rig looks when its down. Wayne and his friend John Gobby have done an incredible job making it secure, but we don't want to take any chances out on the lake!
We have made best use of the time by doing some projects on the boat that had eluded us as we finalized our preparations to take the boat south. It seems like we've now filled every nook and cranny on the boat with groceries, spare parts, supplies and anything else we "think" we might need. You'd think we're going to the far ends of the earth, and not just to the US, but sometimes its just easier to stock up where you're familiar with everything. This picture is just SOME of the provisions that I picked up over the weekend. I think it took longer to stow them and record them in the inventory (remember, we're very organized) than it did to buy them. We're well stocked though... or are we??
As I write this, Wayne is on the internet looking at the marine weather forecast for the next few days and it only appears as though we've got about one day for a weather window. Either it will be a VERY LONG motor to Oswego from Whitby, or we will chance getting as far as Rochester and hope that the forecast changes. We're not going to start our holidays adding stress by taking undue chances on the weather though, so if we have to sit out a few more days, sit we will. I know many of you are anxious for us to begin our adventures, but Mother Nature is not one to be messed with, so we'll pick our weather window and make our journey as pleasant and stress free as possible.
Welcome to Cruising!
