The Pitons in Soufriere, St. Lucia

December 25
Merry Christmas! Quiet morning. Kids slept in. Todd worked on the Saloon A/C pump. I made breakfast - bacon and French toast casserole. We finally ate around noon. Place was quiet. After brunch and opening of presents, we decided we'd leave the dock and head south. We sailed over the The Pitons and arrived by 5:30pm/sunset. Beautiful views of the Pitons. Met Jhaleel (after reading reviews in Navionics) at the mooring balls between the Pitons. He helped us tie off and we made plans for the land/water taxi to hike Gros Pitons - agreed on 7am. Dinner onboard.

As agreed with Jhaleel, he picked us up at 7am on his skiff. Took us to the dock. Dave, his uncle, picked us up and drove us to the Gros Piton hiking trailhead. Paid $50 USD/person then met Suwana and Chili as our guides and started our hike at 7:59am. Every ¼ of the trail, we stopped to catch our breath. Second ¼ is mostly rocks. It started drizzling on the last ¼ and made it to the top! Beautiful views! Started going down and there were more people with guides. Down by noon. Pretty steep climb and this hike is rated 8/10 - Clark describes it as skiing a short black diamond run with moguls. Washed up, gave the tips, then waited for our driver, Matthew. We were all asleep on the way down to town.
He dropped us off by the dock; stopped at ATM then lunch at Petit Peak (aka Waterfront De Belle View Restaurant). Nice lunch then Jhaleel met us to bring us back to the boat. Back by 2:30pm and paid Jhaleel for his services - $450 ECD plus tip for mooring ball services yesterday.
We swam to cool off; snorkled some. Relaxed and played games. Dinner reservations at 7:30pm at Bronte at Sugar Beach Resort. Dinghy'ed over. Great dinner, service and the place was beautiful. If you're ever in this area and want a luxurious all-inclusive resort, check out Sugar Beach Resort in Soufriere. Only the restaurant is available to non-guests at the resort.
