Round the World rally starts Saturday, Jan. 11
Okay - it feels as if we've been cruising for some time (we've been away from home since Sept. 30 with the exception of Thanksgiving week) and the time is almost here. Since we've arrived in Rodney Bay Marina, St. Lucia on Sunday, Jan. 5, we've (mostly Todd) been on final prep mode. The first welcome event was that evening and though we were a little late getting there (due to dock space issues with the marina), we were able to participate and meet a few of our fellow rally-ers.
As a final addition, we found a couple from TX to crew on the first leg to Santa Marta, Colombia (they arrive on Thursday). With the post Todd did on the Salty Dawg site, we had many people respond to crew with us.
The official check-in process with World Cruising Club (WCC) rally operations started on Monday. We also had safety inspections on Tuesday with some open items that need to be completed before Saturday's departure.
Another rally gathering on Tuesday (happy hour) and meeting more people hosted by the marina. On Wednesday, we took a group photo then there was a 3-hour seminar covering more info on the rallly and weather briefing. Todd has been doing more boat chores including fixing the A/C issues in the forward aft cabin and saloon, cleaning the bilges, assessing the various spinnakers we have and the furling lines, getting more diesel in jerry cans. I've been grocery shopping (provisioning in boat terms) since we were in Saint Anne and did one more trip in Rodney Bay and have cooked a few meals and are ready in the freezer.
Thursday night will be a farewell party at the golf and country club hosted by St. Lucia Tourism Authority.
Friday will be spent clearing out of customs and making sure Alegria is ready for leg 1 of this 15-month journey.
More to come...
