The schooner 'Sultana'

31 August 2011 | Chester River, Maryland
Chestertown, Maryland
The arrival of William's sister Liz and husband Derek was delayed by Hurricane Irene and their 'week' turned out to be only 5 days but we had a great time and started off their week at Chestertown on the Chester River just a few miles away from where Alexia had been anchored during hurricane Irene.

It is a lovely spot - very quiet and picturesque. It has a great shipbuilding past and alongside the marina is an almost exact replica of the Schooner Sultana constructed locally using traditional ship building skills and launched in 2001. The original Sultana dates from 1768 and patrolled the North American coast just prior to the American Revolution.

From Chestertown we headed a little south to the Corsica River where we anchored for one night in picture perfect surroundings and then to historic St Michaels, once a trading post for the area's tobacco farmers but now famed for its seafood which is distributed throughout the Bay area. We dined at the Crab Claw Restaurant - delicious crabs, simply steamed and served with melted butter. Just gorgeous.
