Old Fashioned Charm

26 September 2011 | Leland Oil Company Marina
McClellanville, SC
The fishing boats of McClellanville, SC looked majestic and rested in the early morning sun. The need for a diesel top up two days ago had us turning into this little marina/fishing village.

If you want glitz, glamour and a buzzing town nearby dont come to McClennanville but if you want charm, friendliness and a place to relax then this is for you. Duane the Dockmaster took our lines and welcomed us to our slip alongside the diesel dock.

Ashore was a tumble of trees and shrubs, a once glamorous wooden building with balcony and deck was the marina office the whole setting was quite delightful.

We spent two days here feeling very at home. However, those of you who know William well will understand that he has to have a current project - it was decided that as we were so low on diesel we would take the opportunity to fully drain the tank, clean it out checking for any bits or bugs and then refuel.

I jumped enthusiastically into the job and undertook to dismantle and clean the tubular tank sensor - that vital little unit that lets you know how much fuel is left in the tank.........disaster, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and I managed to completely destroy the float mechanism which runs down the centre.

I am saving up for the replacement which I will need to buy!!
