22. Hope Town

08 April 2011
Elbow Cay, Sea of Abaco
Tony & Linda Brighton have come aboard after flying into Marsh Harbour direct from Miami and we have had a short sail today over to Elbow Cay.

We are now in Hope Town's harbour, a really pretty spot and close to the lighthouse built in 1863 to warn ships away from the extensive Elbow Reef.

London's Trinity House installed the powerful lantern that keeps the lighthouse keeper busy every two hours during the night winding up its weights. This light can be seen from 17 miles away.

Climbing the 101 steps to the lantern room gave us a marvellous view of the Sea of Abaco stretching away towards the northwest in the direction where we will be heading tomorrow.
