The Boat Dog

14 December 2011
Crab Cay, Abacos
Today is our fifth night anchored off Crab Cay - the weather has been awful all of the time and the high winds have not stopped at all - day or night. The Catamaran which was here when we arrived disappeared shortly after dawn on the first day. He must have been on a mission to have gone in this weather - we saw him being thrown around quite aggressively.

The little 30ft Tartan, Sunday's Child, has moved into his vacant position and we also move location as the wind has gone round and we are now getting quite a lot of swell coming in through Angelfish Cut which is fine during the day but there's a lot of 'holding on' during the night as Alexia rolls about.

We have made contact with Ted and Maggie on Sunday's Child - they have their dog aboard (Chessie) and are doing a great job ferrying her ashore several times a day. They join us for dinner on most evenings. Ted goes hunting for lobsters in the shallows one morning and presents us with three good size tails which we sauté for dinner one night.

Chessie is a delight, and once she has clambered aboard, removed her life jacket, licked us all and walked around deck, the only thing she demands is a bowl of water before she settles down for a zizz.
