Coming ashore on the beach at New Plymouth , just next to the ferry dock, there is a huge cannon mounted on a concrete base. There is no plaque to tell you where it is from or how old it is.

The shallow waters of the Bahamas still has much wreckage and debris from ancient ships which foundered on the reefs over recent centuries. Much of it is hard to find as it is now covered by inches of sand but local dive companies know where to take you for some spectacular 'finds'.

Thank goodness the advent of new charts, GPS and electronic depth sounders has made such catastrophes almost a thing of the past.
