View from a Lighthouse

26 January 2012
Hope Town, Elbow Cay
Once inside the harbour we chose to go alongside for a day so that we had easy access for everything ashore without the need to launch the dinghy.

The famous Elbow Cay Lighthouse was 200 yards from the dock and we walked to the top to take in the view of Hope Town and the surrounding Cays.

It was quite breathtaking - not only had the wind increased during the last two hours but the views were stunning - blues like you never knew existed enhanced by the afternoon sunshine.

AT 4.5 miles long and only 1000 yards at its widest point (according to Google Earth) the whole cay was clearly visible.

Alexia is in the foreground - the only mast in the picture.

To the right, out of sight, about 20 other boats were in the small mooring field. Anchoring is no longer an option in parts of the Bahamas because of damage to the delicate seabed and coral.
