A Stroll through Town

27 January 2012
Hope Town, Elbow Cay
How perfect can an Island settlement be?

The words of our Cruising Guide say it better than any words I could put together :

"..the streets are narrow concrete paths set between houses painted every colour on a palette ...together with gingerbread eaves and picket fences. Flowers and bushes bloom as if they are hell bent on staking claim to the prettiest colours, in competition with the houses.

Beyond and behind this cacophony of colour, the Atlantic Ocean beckons. It is a deep, dark blue on the far horizon and a brilliant green closer to the shore, with nearby reefs the colour of a well-worn boat shoe. The sand is very nearly pink, especially at sunset. The beaches are gorgeous, wide and go on forever..." end of quote.

Having moved out to pick up a mooring ball in the harbour today, it would be easy to get lazy -just to sit on deck in the warm sun and watch the world go by as Alexia slowly swings round in the light airs but it's just great to be ashore, breathe in all that fresh, unpolluted air and get some more exercise.

There are bikes and golf carts for hire if you want to circumnavigate the entire Cay - but today we're only walking around town to see what's new since we were last here.

We head off in no particular direction - there's no need to plan the route because eventually you end up where you started from having seen everything. This brightly painted gift shop lured us in!
