Day VI
23 June 2011 | South Carolina - FINALLY
Sudzy
Wednesday was a fabulous day with no (mis)adventures. We pulled out of St James Plantation Marina before 7 am for a long day, getting in 120 miles. Stops were at Barefoot Landing north of Myrtle beach. The next section was 'The Rockpile'. It is a section with large protruding rocks. Captain Jack conveniently went to the head moments before leaving Capt Don to navigate the rocks. Ha! No events, we left them to the day before .
Did I mention that we were hurrying to "the last pontoon bridge on the ICW" that opened on the hour and came to find the bridge near Sunset Beach, NC no longer exists?! While some bridges on the ICW will open on request, many open at specific times so we took our time approaching. For all of you traveling down the ICW, "the last pontoon bridge" is no longer.
Fabulous lunch in Georgetown SC at the Big Tuna. If you want seafood, go there. Great ambience, great food.
A major portion of the trip was beautiful, desolate swamp lands. Wacama River was majestic and lush. The near extinct woodpeckers were nowhere to be seen but we were escorted by pods of dolphin and a flock of seagulls - birds, not the band.
We docked at Isle of Palms in SC. Another fab marina. We grilled on board with cocktails in the shadow of the lighted clubhouse. Great breeze, great company and great evening.
